this is a familiar and prominent landmark in ipoh. It is a clock tower erected in memory of the late j.w.w birch, the first british resident of perak who died in the line of duty at pasir salak on 2.11.1875. The square tower comprise a potrait bust and four panels illustrating the growth of civilisation.

situated at jalan panglima bukit gantang wahab the darul ridzuan museum is the only museum in the city of ipoh. Built some 80 years ago by rich tin miner, it now houses an interesting collection of historical artifacts on tin mining, nature history and the city of ipoh. Visitors to the museum can also explore an underground air shelter within its premises which was built by the owner raid prior during world war ii.

The fresh atmosphere and variety of flora are the main attractions of this popular recreational park in Ipoh. Located in the heart of Ipoh City. The garden is made up of several recreational fields, an artificial lake that contains various types of fishes and a nursery for potted plants.Children can enjoy several recreational and amusement facilities such as the roller-skating rink, a playground, a mini-train course and a children's traffic playground. There are also beautiful arches, modular framework, shelters, pedestrian paths and the Ipoh tree which gave the city its name. The latest addition is the newly landscaped Japanese Garden featuring a typical Japanese Carps pond. Named after a prominent and well natured politician, D R Seenivasagam, this park is ideal for brisk walks and family outings. Many families come here to relax amidst the profusion of greenery and to bid farewell to the setting sun.

As the name suggests, the Geological Museum houses More than 600 samples of minerals and ores found in the state of Perak. Among the minerals recovered from the local grounds are copper, coal, galena, hematite, iron, tungsten, sulphur, calcite, corundum, gold, wolframite, monazite, and alluvium. Established in 1957, the Geological Museum is also famous for its display of the best specimen of cassiterite in the world. There is also the impressive collection of fossils, precious stones and various rock specimens found and collected over the years. Located at jalan sultan azlan shah in Ipoh city. Opening hours : 8am to 4.15pm (monday to friday) 8am to 12.45pm (saturday). Admission is free*

gtpurung Gua Tempurong
Believed to have existed since 800 b.c. Gua Tempurong is probably the largest natural limestone cave in malaysia. Situated about 24 kilometres from Ipoh, the cave stretches fro 1.3 kilometres and is made up of five huge domes whose ceilings resemble coconut shells. Each dome has different formations of stalagmites and stalactites as well as differing temperatures, water levels, content of limestone and marble.

The Gunung Lang recreation park, off jalan Kuala Kangsar, is an ideal location to relax the mind and the body. It is built around a scenic backdrop of limestone hills and lakes. Here, there is minimal cutting of hills and the surrounding lakes and wetlands are left untouched as added attractions. Among the attractions here are the manmade cascading waterfalls atop a limestone hill, a two-kilometre boardwalk over swampland, viewing tower and a playground. Public amenities like washrooms and prayer rooms are available. Soon, there will be an aviary and a flower garden along the lines of the celebrated buchart garden in vancouver, canada, camping ground, hanging bridge and handicraft stalls. Besides Gunung Lang, other well known recreational sites in Ipoh are taman d.r. And sultan abdul aziz parks.

Big splash! Definitely a favourite haunt by locals during the weekends and holidays. The water from the waterfall is so cool and refreshing. Located near to the Police Field Force North Brigade base.

Traveling up north to Ipoh, you will come across a spectacular view of an Indian Temple interspersed by limestone hills. keklok keklok1 Kek Lok Tong
Opened in the 1970s, Kek Lok Tong is the most recent of the Ipoh cave temples and perhaps the most spectacular of them all. The temple is set in a huge cave in the limestone outcrops behind gunung rapat. The temple has impressive works of art, with statues of buddha in various forms among natural stalactites and rock formations. One can savour vegetarian food, served here at the temple, in peaceful surroundings amidst lotus ponds. The easiest route to the temple is through the sungai rokam housing area, where you just follow signs leading directly to the site. Alternatively, the longer route via picturesque tambun district will take you for a trip through groves of pomeloes farm and abandoned tin mines. located in gunung rapat near the Sam Poh Tong, about 5 km south of Ipoh city.

About 30 minutes drive from Ipoh, near batu gajah, stands the ruins of Kellie's Castle . It belonged to william kellie smith, an english rubber tycoon during the late 19th century. The castle was never completed as smith left for england in the midst of its construction, and never returned. Shrouded in dark mystery, it is believed that Kellie's Castle has hidden rooms and secret tunnel. The road which leads to the castle follows the contours of land in dizzying, maze-like fashion, adding to the mystery and romance of the place.

Perak Tong, a limestone cave temple, is located at jalan Kuala Kangsar, 6km to the north of Ipoh. This temple houses over 40 buddha statues, the centre piece being a 12.8m high sitting buddha. Beyond the main altar, there is a passage which leads into the iterior of the cave. After a step climb of 385 steps, the cave open agains to reveal a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside. On the walls of the cave, a visitor will find himself fascinated by mystical mural paintings.

The founder of this temple is the Chinese Kapitan, Chua Su Cheong and the deity of the temple is Tua Pek Kong. In 1795, the Dutch appointed Kapitan Chua built the temple for the purposes of worship to the deceased buried on Bukit China.

Built in 1935, the Ipoh Railway Station bears close resemblance to its counterpart in Kuala Lumpur. Affectionately known to locals as Ipoh's 'taj mahal', it is an impressive landmark which combines moorish architecture with modern embellishments. The Railway Station also has a hotel to accommodate travelers called the majestic hotel. Fronting the building is a beautiful floral garden that serves as a charming welcome for tourists to the city. As according to the historians, Perak actually pioneered train travel in malaya (the former name of peninsular malaysia). This is a great reminder that the british were the first to lay down railway lines to satisfy the transportation demands of the tin mining industry. Located at jalan panglima Bukit Gantang wahab in the heart of Ipoh city.
sampohtong Sam Poh Tong
Another famous cave temple is the Sam Poh Tong temple, located in gunung rapat. This temple, said to be the biggest cave temple in the country, is an impressive work of art and faith, with various statues of buddha interspersed among natural stalactites and stalagmites. According to legend, the cave was discovered way back in 1890 when a monk from china who was passing through Ipoh, found the cave and decided to make it his domicile and a place for meditation. The monk remained there for 20 years until his death. till today, nuns and monks who dedicate their lives to buddha still occupy the Sam Poh Tong. The present temple facade dates back to the 1950s and a stiff climb of 246 steps will lead you to an open cave with an excellent view of Ipoh city and its surroundings. other attractions at the temple include a beautiful japanese pond full of japanese carps and tortoises (symbol of longevity) located outside the cave and a vegetarian restaurant. Located in gunung rapat near the Kek Lok Tong, about 5 km south of Ipoh city.
